Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President Fred Pappoe has come to the defense of goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, urging football fans and critics to allow the player to focus on his job without unnecessary scrutiny.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Pappoe questioned why there has been so much debate surrounding Asare’s recent performances, emphasizing that the goalkeeper is effectively doing what he was selected to do — protect Ghana’s goal.
“I don’t know why people are making an issue of it. The man has been given a job to do, and he – Benjamin Asare – is doing the job, so what is our point?”
“We put him into the goalpost to make sure we don’t have balls entering our net… and he is doing just that. It’s not a call we should be making now.”
Fred Pappoe’s comments come amid rising discussions over Asare’s inclusion and form in recent matches. Many fans have questioned his consistency, but others — including Pappoe — believe that the criticism is misplaced and that the player deserves support rather than constant public pressure.
Asare has been a key figure for his club and continues to fight for his place in Ghana’s national setup.
