Outspoken politician and businessman Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has officially declared his intention to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 Presidential Primaries.
The Assin Central Member of Parliament, known for his bold rhetoric and no-nonsense approach, says his decision is fueled by the overwhelming support he has received from Ghanaians across all walks of life.

“I’ve had calls and visits from professionals, youth groups, party members, even sitting MPs — all encouraging me to take this bold step,” Ken Agyapong said during a press briefing in Accra. “Some have even pledged to cover my nomination fees. That level of belief in me cannot be ignored.”

A Return to the Ring
This announcement marks a comeback for Agyapong, who previously contested in the NPP’s 2023 flagbearership race but lost to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Despite the outcome, he has remained an active and vocal figure in the party, often advocating for accountability, local business growth, and grassroots mobilization.
His 2028 ambition sets the stage for what could be a highly competitive internal race, with early signs pointing to potential contests from other big names in the party.
A Campaign Backed by the Base?
Agyapong emphasized that his campaign will be driven by the ordinary Ghanaian. “My message is simple: integrity, discipline, and national pride. We need leadership that puts Ghana first, not personal interest,” he stated.
Political watchers say Ken Agyapong’s early declaration gives him an advantage in mobilizing support and setting the tone for a grassroots-heavy campaign.
What’s Next?
Although the official opening of nominations for the NPP’s 2028 primaries is still years away, insiders suggest the race is already heating up behind the scenes, with alliances, consultations, and pledges of support quietly forming.
If successful, Ken Agyapong would become the first self-made businessman to lead the NPP into a presidential election.
