Residents of Tabora Number 4, near the New Market, were thrown into panic at dawn after a fierce fire broke out, destroying several properties before being brought under control by firefighters.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire — which started in the early hours of Saturday — completely razed a tyre shop, a provision store, a carpentry shop, and a self-contained house, leaving behind significant damage and losses running into thousands of cedis.
Local residents told reporters that the fire spread rapidly due to the flammable materials in the tyre and carpentry shops, making it difficult for early responders to contain the flames.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived promptly at the scene and battled the blaze for several hours before managing to extinguish it. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded.
Authorities have begun investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time. Meanwhile, affected property owners are counting their losses, appealing to the government and the public for assistance to rebuild their livelihoods.
