A suspected ‘fraud boy’ has been lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob at Assin Breku in Ghana’s Central Region after allegedly beheading a nine-year-old boy.
The suspect, identified only as Asuo, is said to have also chopped off the hands of the young victim.
According to eyewitness accounts, a woman reportedly spotted a human hand in a sack that the suspect was carrying. Alarmed by her discovery, she raised an alarm that attracted residents to the scene.
The community launched a search, which led them to a nearby path where the boy’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood, missing both hands.
The shocking discovery infuriated residents, who stormed the suspect’s home and reportedly found blood-stained bedsheets and a T-shirt, further confirming their suspicions.
Before the arrival of the police, the agitated mob lynched and burned the suspect alive.
Police have since commenced investigations into both the alleged murder and the mob action.
While many sympathize with the community’s outrage over the gruesome killing, security experts and legal analysts are urging calm, stressing that justice must be pursued within the confines of the law.
Authorities warn that those who took part in the mob action could face life imprisonment if found guilty.
