President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning following the passing of former First Lady, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The period of mourning begins Friday, October 24, and ends on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
According to a statement from the Presidency, all national flags will be flown at half-mast across public buildings, government institutions, and Ghana’s diplomatic missions worldwide. The gesture honors the memory and legacy of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who served Ghana with distinction and played a significant role in national development, women’s empowerment, and social justice.
President Mahama described the late former First Lady as “a trailblazer and a passionate advocate for women and children whose contributions to national development remain indelible.”
The Office of the President also urged Ghanaians to observe the mourning period solemnly and to remember the family of the late Nana Konadu in their prayers.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, was celebrated for her tireless advocacy for women’s rights, education, and rural development. Her passing marks the end of an era in Ghana’s political and social history.
